900 Newly Trained Tribal Militants Equipped with Drones and Missiles: Manipur’s Intel on Myanmar-Based Rebels

Guwahati : The Manipur government has raised an alarm over an intelligence report indicating the entry of 900 tribal militants from Myanmar into the state. These militants, newly trained in the use of drones, projectiles, and missiles, are reportedly planning coordinated attacks on villages in the Imphal Valley around September 28, according to Manipur’s Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh.

The intelligence alert was shared with police units, and the districts along the border have been placed on high alert. Singh emphasized that the security forces, including the Manipur Police and Assam Rifles, are on maximum readiness to counter any potential threats.

A strategic meeting of the Unified Command was convened on September 18 to address the emerging situation. This high-level meeting included key officials from multiple security agencies such as Inspector Generals of Assam Rifles (South and East), the GOC of 57 Mountain Division, the Border Security Force (BSF) Chief, the Inspector General (IG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, the state’s Home Commissioner, and other senior security officials.

During the meeting, detailed plans were discussed to reinforce security measures and ensure that all border areas and vulnerable districts remain safeguarded. The officials reviewed intelligence inputs, assessed operational readiness, and planned for any possible incursion by the militant groups.

The Security Advisor assured the public that stringent security measures are already in place across several districts, including Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Ukhrul, and Pherzawl. Central Forces are working in close collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and civil society leaders in these districts to maintain peace and stability.

The reported influx of militants is seen as a significant threat, particularly because of the advanced training these militants have received. Their newfound capabilities in operating drones and missiles could pose a serious challenge to state security forces if not contained. The Assam Rifles and other military units stationed at the border are keeping a close watch on potential militant movements, while additional security personnel have been deployed to key areas.

Singh emphasized that security forces remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any incidents swiftly. He also called for cooperation from the public and urged local leaders to assist in maintaining calm during this tense period.

The situation has heightened concerns over cross-border insurgency, which has been an ongoing issue in Manipur due to its proximity to Myanmar, where various militant groups often seek refuge and training. With security forces on high alert, the state is bracing for any escalation in violence and remains committed to safeguarding its citizens.
