South African Professors Visit Integrated Horticulture Development Centre in Mahendergarh

Delegation Explores Pearl Millet Farming Techniques and Value Addition Opportunities

Mahendergarh, July 24 2024 :  A delegation comprising five professors from South Africa visited the Integrated Horticulture Development Centre (IHDC) in Sundrah, Mahendergarh, on Tuesday. Led by Prof. Viviana Ojong, the delegation included Prof. Hassan Kaya, Dr. Mayashree Chinsamy, Dr. Tez, and Prof. Yonaha Seleti.

The primary objective of their visit was to engage with progressive pearl millet farmers in Mahendergarh district. Accompanied by Joint Director of Agriculture Dr. Mahavir Singh and Subject Matter Specialist in Horticulture Dr. Hitesh Aggarwal, the delegation explored pearl millet production technologies and methods for value addition.

During their visit, self-help group women from nearby villages showcased a variety of processed pearl millet products to the delegation. They also toured the IHDC Sundrah facility, organized by Centre Incharge Dr. Neha Yadav, to familiarize themselves with advanced horticultural technologies and techniques being implemented.

The delegation received a warm welcome from Deputy Director of Agriculture Dr. Devender Singh, District Horticulture Officer in Narnaul Dr. Prem Kumar, and other officials. The program, jointly conducted by the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, aims to benefit local farmers by enhancing their knowledge of millet cultivation and processing.

This visit underscores efforts to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between experts from India and South Africa in the fields of horticulture and agriculture, aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region.
