Haryana Government Equates Sports University of Haryana’s Coaching Diploma with NIS Patiala

Sonipat,June 15, 2024: The Government of Haryana proudly announces that the Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Coaching (PGDSC) issued by the Sports University of Haryana, Rai (Sonipat), will now be treated at par with the Diploma in Sports Coaching issued by the esteemed Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, and other UGC-recognized sports universities across the country. This landmark decision reflects the government’s commitment to fostering excellence in sports education and coaching.
The Sports University of Haryana, established under the Legislative Act 21 of 2022 and recognized under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, has rapidly developed into a center of excellence dedicated to nurturing the next generation of sports coaches and professionals. The recognition of its PGDSC as equivalent to diplomas from NIS, Patiala, means that diploma holders from the Sports University of Haryana will now enjoy equal opportunities and recognition in sports coaching nationwide.
Key Highlights:

Equivalency Recognition: The PGDSC from Sports University of Haryana, Rai (Sonipat) will be treated as equivalent to the diplomas issued by NIS, Patiala, LNIPE, Gwalior, and other UGC recognized sports universities.
Extended Admission Deadline: To accommodate aspiring students, the last date for filling out the admission forms has been extended from June 21, 2024, to July 15, 2024.
The equivalency recognition will enable graduates to pursue careers and further education with the same status as their peers from other leading institutes. This decision is a testament to the quality of education and training the Sports University of Haryana provides and its alignment with national standards.
Sh. Ashok Kumar, former DGP and IPS Vice Chancellor of the Sports University of Haryana expressed his gratitude towards the government’s decision: “This recognition is a significant milestone for our university and our students. It acknowledges the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff in providing top-tier education and training in sports coaching.” Before this notification, candidates who had completed a diploma in sports coaching from LNIPE Gwalior and other sports universities were not recognized in Haryana for coaching recruitment
The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) and is a proud member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). This recognition confirms that SUOH meets the educational standards set by UGC, ensuring that the degrees awarded are acknowledged nationwide and internationally. Membership in AIU further affirms SUOH’s standing as an established university, facilitating academic collaboration and standardization of degrees across institutions.
The university offers a range of programs designed to cater to various aspects of sports education and training. Our academic offerings encompass a comprehensive array of programs tailored to the diverse interests and career aspirations in physical education and sports. At the undergraduate level, we offer the Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) in two formats: the Regular/Face-to-Face Mode and a Hybrid Mode explicitly designed for active athletes, each with a capacity of 50 seats. Additionally, the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Sports Science is available with 50 seats. For postgraduate students, the Master of Physical Education and Sports (MPES) program accommodates 30 seats. We also provide specialized Postgraduate Diplomas in Sports Coaching, covering various sports such as Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Handball, Kabaddi, Lawn-Tennis, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Yoga, each with an intake of 25 seats per diploma. Further, we offer Postgraduate Diplomas in other critical disciplines, including Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition, Sports Physiotherapy, Strength and Conditioning, and Sports Journalism, with 20 seats available per diploma. Our PhD program in Physical Education offers three seats for those pursuing advanced research, with the potential for additional seats depending on supervisor availability.
We are also proud to offer scholarships for national and international medallists and fee waivers for national and international athletes. These scholarships and fee waivers aim to support and encourage athletes with exceptional talent and dedication to their sports.
