Gurugram, May 29, 2024 – Chairperson of the Haryana Women’s Commission, Renu Bhatia, conducted an inspection of the district jail located in Bhondsi today and held discussions with jail officials regarding the condition of female inmates residing there.
During the inspection of the women’s barracks, Chairperson Renu Bhatia found that some women become involved in criminal incidents due to live-in relationships, which is not acceptable. About two and a half years ago, Chairperson Renu Bhatia played a crucial role in getting some women arrested for the crime of child theft. Upon seeing these female prisoners, Renu Bhatia expressed regret that some women are resorting to selling intoxicating substances. She emphasized that instead of becoming criminals, women should aspire to become the torchbearers of their homes.
Jail Superintendent Sunil Sangwan welcomed the Chairperson of the Haryana Women’s Commission to the jail premises. He informed that there are currently 164 female prisoners in the jail. All of them undergo regular health check-ups and are provided with nutritious food. Female prisoners are engaged in creative activities such as knitting, making papads, pickles, etc. Inspiring motivational sessions are conducted for female inmates in the jail for their rehabilitation.
