Opposition shouts “shame” at Dharmendra Pradhan’s swearing in the Lok Sabha amid the NEET-NTA dispute

In the first sitting of the 18th Lok Sabha, the opposition shouted “NEET” and “shame” as Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took his oath as a Member of Parliament on Monday. This protest occurred amid reports of irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG examination, including cheating, impersonation, and other malpractices. These issues led the Education Ministry to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Additionally, the NEET-PG exam was postponed.

Public unrest has surged nationwide, with opposition leaders, student bodies, and students demanding justice and severe penalties for those involved. Protests erupted, resulting in the arrest of over two dozen students from various universities during demonstrations at the Ministry of Education and Pradhan’s residence in central Delhi. Protesters are also calling for Pradhan’s resignation and the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is responsible for conducting the exam.
