Turkey school shooting: 4 killed, 20 injured in Kahramanmaras middle school attack

A tragic shooting at a middle school in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province has left four people dead and around 20 others injured, according to local authorities. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, marks the second school shooting reported in the country within 48 hours.

Officials confirmed that the victims include three students and one teacher. Emergency response teams rushed to the scene soon after the attack, while security forces sealed off the school premises to ensure public safety.

Authorities stated that the suspected gunman was an eighth-grade student enrolled at the same school. Preliminary findings suggest the weapon used in the attack belonged to the student’s father and had been brought onto campus hidden inside a backpack.

Regional governor Mukerrem Unluer said the situation was brought under control quickly, though investigations are still ongoing to determine the full sequence of events. Reports indicate that the suspected attacker also lost his life during the incident, though officials have yet to confirm further details.

Medical teams and ambulances were immediately deployed, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved, and a detailed inquiry has been launched.

The Kahramanmaras attack comes just a day after another shooting at a vocational high school in Sanliurfa’s Siverek district.

In that incident, a 17-year-old former student opened fire using a shotgun, injuring 16 people, including students, teachers, and a police officer. Authorities said the attacker later died by suicide at the scene.

According to local officials, the suspect had previously been involved in a dispute before carrying out the assault. Witnesses reported that he entered the school grounds and began shooting indiscriminately.

The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about school security and access to firearms in Turkey. Authorities are expected to review safety protocols as investigations into both attacks continue.
