PM Modi Slashes Convoy Size Amid Fuel Concerns, Pushes EVs, Carpooling And Work From Home

PM Narendra Modi reportedly ordered a major reduction in his official convoy and appealed to citizens to cut fuel consumption as global tensions impact oil supplies.

In the backdrop of the growing fuel supply concerns linked to the Hormuz crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a significant step aimed at promoting fuel conservation across the country. According to sources, the Prime Minister has instructed officials to reduce the size of his official convoy by nearly half while encouraging increased use of electric vehicles for official movement.

Sources indicate that the Special Protection Group (SPG), responsible for the Prime Minister’s security, has been directed to optimize convoy arrangements without compromising safety protocols. The move is being viewed as a symbolic as well as practical effort to encourage responsible fuel usage during a period of uncertainty in global oil markets.

The decision reportedly came into effect during the Prime Minister’s recent visits connected to government programmes and oath ceremonies, where the number of vehicles accompanying him was noticeably reduced. Officials have also been advised to prioritize electric mobility wherever possible, though no fresh vehicle purchases have been planned at this stage.

During recent interactions with officials and public representatives, the Prime Minister appealed to citizens to actively contribute toward reducing petrol and diesel consumption. He encouraged people to make greater use of metro services, electric buses and other forms of public transportation.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of carpooling, suggesting that people travelling in private vehicles should accommodate more passengers whenever possible to minimize fuel usage.

Apart from transport-related measures, the government is also reportedly focusing on reducing unnecessary travel through digital alternatives. The Prime Minister stressed the need for virtual meetings in both government and private sectors and encouraged organizations to expand work-from-home arrangements wherever feasible.

Officials say copies of the Prime Minister’s message and proposed action points were circulated among senior leaders and chief ministers during recent official programmes. The advisory reportedly highlights energy conservation, controlled spending and preparedness during the ongoing international crisis.

The government’s latest push is being seen as part of a broader strategy to reduce pressure on fuel demand while promoting sustainable and cost-effective alternatives across sectors.
