Green Fuels and Biofuel Push to Cut Crude Imports

New Delhi, September 11, 2025 – Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari presented the government’s roadmap for a cleaner and safer transport ecosystem while addressing the 65th Annual Convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today.

Highlighting India’s position as the world’s third-largest automobile market, Gadkari stressed the need to strengthen comfortable public transportation and adhere to BS7 and CAFE emission norms to combat air pollution. He urged a nationwide shift to biofuels to cut crude oil imports and boost farmer incomes.

The Minister also noted the success of the vehicle scrappage policy, with over 3 lakh old vehicles scrapped, benefiting the industry, government, and environment.

Gadkari announced that India’s logistics cost is expected to fall to single digits by the year’s end, improving economic efficiency. Emphasizing road safety, he called for public awareness campaigns and NGO involvement to change driver behavior and reduce accidents.

To encourage immediate assistance to accident victims, the government will award ₹25,000 to ‘Rah-Veers’ who help at crash sites and provide insurance coverage up to ₹1.5 lakh for victims.

Reiterating the government’s vision of a sustainable, affordable, and safe mobility ecosystem, Gadkari underlined that green fuels, stronger public transport, and road safety initiatives are critical pillars for achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047.
