New Delhi : The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM following intense protests by opposition members over various issues. The disruption occurred during Zero Hour, when Samajwadi Party (SP) members attempted to raise concerns about the reported attack on SP MP Ramji Lal Suman after his remarks on Rana Sanga, a historical figure. Simultaneously, members of the Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) stood up in protest, demanding discussions on the issue of duplicate Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers and other pressing matters.
The situation in the House quickly escalated as opposition MPs created noisy scenes, leading to repeated interventions by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The Speaker firmly rejected the adjournment notices submitted by opposition members, emphasizing that the House would function strictly as per the rules. He also objected to the display of placards, stating that such actions violate parliamentary procedures. Despite his repeated appeals for order, the opposition members continued sloganeering and disrupting proceedings.
As tensions mounted, Speaker Om Birla made several attempts to restore order, urging the protesting members to participate in discussions in a dignified manner. However, the continuous disruptions left him with no choice but to adjourn the House until 2 PM. This adjournment highlights the ongoing clashes between the ruling party and the opposition, particularly on issues that have stirred political controversy.
The Samajwadi Party’s concerns over the alleged attack on Ramji Lal Suman stem from his remarks about Rana Sanga, a 16th-century Rajput ruler, which reportedly led to strong reactions. Meanwhile, the Congress and TMC’s protest focused on the alleged irregularities in voter identity cards, which they claim could impact electoral transparency.
This is not the first time that opposition protests have disrupted Lok Sabha proceedings in recent sessions. With several contentious issues on the table, including the alleged NEET scam, electoral reforms, and governance-related concerns, tensions between the BJP-led NDA government and the opposition continue to rise.
Political analysts believe that such frequent adjournments reflect the deepening divide between the government and opposition parties as they gear up for future electoral battles. As the House reconvenes at 2 PM, it remains to be seen whether the opposition will persist with its demands or engage in a structured debate as urged by the Speaker.
