A workplace professional in Kolkata has alleged harassment by his landlord following a brief visit by a female friend to his rented accommodation, raising questions around tenant privacy and informal housing restrictions.
The individual, who works with a Big 4 firm, shared his experience on X, claiming that the situation escalated within minutes. According to his account, the woman had accompanied him to his flat only to use the washroom, and the visit lasted no more than 10 to 15 minutes.
He stated that shortly after they entered the premises, the building’s caretaker informed the landlord about the visitor. The landlord then attempted to contact the tenant, but the calls went unanswered as the phone was on silent. The matter reportedly intensified when the landlord reached out to the tenant’s parents, warning them of possible police action.
The tenant said he became aware of the situation only after leaving the apartment, when he noticed several missed calls from both the landlord and his family members. The incident left him surprised at how quickly the situation had escalated over what he described as a brief and harmless visit.
