New Delhi, March 7: The Government of India will mark International Women’s Day with a national-level programme in the capital on March 8. The event, organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, will be held at the Manekshaw Centre.
The ceremony will be attended by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, who will deliver the keynote address during the programme.
Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi and Minister of State Savitri Thakur will also be present at the event and will address the gathering, outlining major initiatives taken by the government to promote women-led development.
The programme will begin with a welcome address by Anil Malik. This will be followed by audio-visual presentations showcasing the growing participation of women in the workforce and highlighting key policies aimed at women’s empowerment.
After the inaugural session, two panel discussions will be organised focusing on key aspects of women’s progress. One discussion will explore the role of labour reforms in enhancing opportunities for women, while the other will highlight the contribution of women associated with self-help groups who are emerging as entrepreneurs.
The event is expected to bring together nearly 1,000 women representatives from more than 150 ministries, departments, and organisations. Participants will include women from sectors such as the armed forces, police, media, healthcare, sports, and other professional fields.
Officials said the programme aims to showcase the diverse contributions of women across the country and reaffirm the government’s commitment to strengthening women’s empowerment and gender equality.
