MoS Dr L. Murugan Participates in Swachhata Hi Seva Activities at IIMC

Minister administers cleanliness pledge, joins tree plantation and Shramdaan; urges students and officials to promote cleanliness in institutions and public spaces

New Delhi, October 1: Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr L. Murugan participated in a series of activities organised under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi, on Wednesday.

The programme began with the Swachhata pledge, in which faculty members, officers, staff, students and Indian Information Service trainees participated.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Murugan recalled the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission in 2014 and emphasised the role of public participation in sustaining cleanliness initiatives.

The Minister urged students and officials to contribute to cleanliness efforts wherever possible, including at institutions, Anganwadi centres, temples and other public spaces. He emphasised that maintaining cleanliness in public institutions and workplaces is a collective responsibility.

Tree Plantation and Shramdaan

As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, Dr Murugan planted a sapling on the IIMC campus. Interacting with students, he stressed that tree plantation should be accompanied by regular care and maintenance to ensure the long-term growth of trees.

The Minister also participated in a one-hour Shramdaan along with students, faculty members, officers and staff. The activity involved clearing waste and construction material from areas of the campus as part of the cleanliness drive.

Minister Reviews IIMC Facilities

During his visit, Dr Murugan inspected newly constructed classrooms and other academic and infrastructure facilities at IIMC, including the teaching block, hostel under construction and renovated library.

He also interacted with students from different states and departments of the institute and appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by IIMC in the areas of cleanliness, environmental awareness, campus development and student participation.

Dr Pragya Paliwal Gaur, Vice-Chancellor of IIMC; L. Madhu Nag, Registrar and DG Training; and R.K. Jena, Senior Economic Advisor, were present during the programme along with faculty members, officers, staff, students and officer trainees.

The programme formed part of IIMC’s activities under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, aimed at encouraging collective participation in cleanliness, environmental conservation and responsible citizenship.
