Mumbai, October 13, 2026: The makers of the much-anticipated epic film Ramayana have unveiled a new poster featuring Jatayu, revealing that veteran actor Anupam Kher will lend his voice to the revered character in Ramayana Part 1.
The announcement comes ahead of the film’s advance bookings, which are scheduled to open on October 20, coinciding with Dussehra. The first instalment of the epic is set for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
The newly released poster offers a close-up of Jatayu, highlighting the legendary bird’s intense gaze, alongside another visual showing him with his wings spread wide.
Announcing the casting on social media, the makers described Jatayu as a symbol of courage and dharma.
“When evil took flight, courage rose to meet it. He fought not for victory, but for what was right. Jatayu. The Wings of Dharma. Anupam Kher as Jatayu in Ramayana,” the caption read.
In the Ramayana, Jatayu is remembered for his courageous attempt to rescue Sita from Ravana. Despite being vastly outmatched, the bird confronts Ravana to protect Sita, making his sacrifice a powerful symbol of bravery, righteousness and selflessness.
Kher’s voice portrayal is expected to bring the legendary character to life in the upcoming cinematic adaptation.
The makers recently confirmed that Ramayana Part 1 will release in theatres worldwide, including India, on November 5, 2026.
Earlier reports had suggested that the Indian release might take place two days after the international debut. However, the makers clarified that audiences in India will be able to watch the film on the same day as its global release.
The announcement was made during Navratri, with the makers describing the film as the beginning of a new era. The film will be released across premium theatrical formats, while advance bookings will open on Dussehra.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features a prominent ensemble cast, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
The film is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG, the visual effects company known for its work on major international productions, and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.
With its ambitious scale, prominent cast and retelling of one of India’s most celebrated epics, Ramayana Part 1 is among the most anticipated theatrical releases of 2026. The unveiling of Jatayu’s character adds to the excitement as the film approaches its advance booking date.
