New Delhi : Singer Rahul Vaidya stirred social media on Monday after mocking Indian cricket star Virat Kohli over the recent controversy involving social media influencer Avneet Kaur. The incident began when a post about Avneet Kaur reportedly received a ‘like’ from Kohli’s official Instagram account, sparking widespread speculation and online chatter. Although Kohli later clarified that the interaction was a result of an Instagram algorithm error, the story took a new turn when Vaidya entered the conversation.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Rahul Vaidya questioned Kohli’s explanation, posting humorous comments that appeared to cast doubt on the cricketer’s statement. “Algorithm must be really advanced these days,” Vaidya quipped in one story, followed by another that included a screenshot of Kohli’s clarification with a sarcastic caption. The singer’s posts were widely shared, with many interpreting them as mockery directed at Kohli’s attempt to defuse the situation.
Kohli, currently playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, had earlier addressed the controversy to put an end to the speculation. In a social media post, he explained that he had not intentionally interacted with the Avneet Kaur post, suggesting that the platform’s algorithms might have recorded the activity in error — a claim that is often cited by public figures in similar situations.
However, Rahul Vaidya’s involvement reignited the discussion. In a follow-up Instagram story, the singer revealed that he had been blocked by Kohli. “Looks like I touched a nerve. Blocked by the King himself,” Vaidya wrote, attaching a screenshot as proof. The claim quickly went viral, sparking debate online about celebrity behavior and the fine line between public scrutiny and personal privacy.
While Kohli has chosen not to respond to Vaidya’s comments directly, the singer’s remarks have divided social media users. Some criticized Vaidya for targeting a sports icon during a crucial tournament, while others defended his right to express an opinion on a trending issue.
