Faridabad, July 22, 2024 : Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI) unveiled its ambitious initiative ‘Glory of 5 Rings’ today, aimed at honoring the Olympic ethos and inspiring a new generation of sports enthusiasts. The launch event, held at Manav Rachna’s campus in Faridabad, saw the participation of legendary Olympians who graced the occasion with their presence and wisdom.
The ‘Glory of 5 Rings’ initiative is designed to foster a deep appreciation for sportsmanship among students while celebrating Manav Rachna’s rich history of sporting achievements. It includes a series of workshops, competitions, and interactive sessions featuring renowned sports personalities, all geared towards igniting a passion for sports among the youth.
Highlighting Manav Rachna’s commitment to sports excellence, the institution was awarded the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar (National Sports Promotion Award) by the President of India in 2021. The institution has produced notable alumni who have excelled at global sporting events such as the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and Olympics. This year, the pride of Manav Rachna rests with alumna Shreyasi Singh and current student Anish Bhanwala, who are set to represent India in shooting at the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. Gagan Narang, a Manav Rachna alumnus and Chef De Mission for the Indian contingent, and Ronjan Sodhi, former World No. 1 in double trap shooting, have also played pivotal roles in mentoring aspiring athletes.
The inauguration of ‘Glory of 5 Rings’ commenced with a symbolic balloon release by esteemed Olympians Yogeshwar Dutt, Dilip Tirkey, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Om Prakash Singh Karhana, Rani Rampal, and Ronjan Sodhi. They also participated in a lively discussion forum moderated by Digvijay Singh Deo of WION Sports.
Yogeshwar Dutt, Olympic wrestling champion, emphasized the challenges and resilience required in an athlete’s journey to the Olympics, stating, “Competing in the Olympics is the ultimate dream for every athlete.”
Dilip Tirkey, former captain of the Indian Hockey Team, highlighted the evolving opportunities in sports for today’s youth, urging them to pursue their aspirations with dedication and determination.
Reflecting on the intrinsic value of sports participation, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, a veteran trap shooter, encouraged aspiring athletes to embrace challenges and strive for excellence.
Om Prakash Singh Karhana, Indian Shot Put champion and Olympian, expressed pride in representing India internationally and emphasized the dedication required to achieve Olympic success.
Rani Rampal, Indian Hockey player and Olympian, shared insights from her Olympic journey, stressing the importance of perseverance in overcoming setbacks.
Dr. Amit Bhalla, Vice President of Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence, highlighting the significance of the Paris Olympics 2024 where two distinguished alumni will represent India.
