Iconic Figure in India’s Hospitality sector, PRS Oberoi, Passes away at 94

New Delhi, Nov 14,2023 – Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, the revered 94-year-old veteran corporate hotelier and Chairman Emeritus of The Oberoi Group, breathed his last on Tuesday. Known affectionately as ‘Biki,’ Oberoi leaves behind a lasting legacy in India’s hospitality industry, having played a pivotal role in shaping and expanding The Oberoi Group, which boasts 32 hotels.

The Oberoi Group, under his leadership, became synonymous with luxury and excellence in hospitality. EIH, the parent company, owns the well-regarded Oberoi and Trident hotel chains.

PRS Oberoi, the son of the late Rai Bahadur MS Oberoi, founder of The Oberoi Group, also played a key role in the development of the Trident chain of hotels. His father, who initiated the venture in 1934, passed away in 2002. Tragically, Tilak Raj, Oberoi’s older son, reportedly succumbed prematurely in 1984.

Oberoi’s demise marks the end of an era in the Indian hospitality sector, as the industry mourns the loss of a visionary leader who transformed The Oberoi Group into a symbol of hospitality excellence.
