New Delhi, October 13, 2026: Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy and Trade and Industry (Trade) Gan Kim Yong is visiting India from October 13 to 15 to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and expand engagement with Indian government officials, businesses and institutions.
According to Singapore’s Ministry of Energy and Trade and Industry, Gan will be in New Delhi on October 13 and 14, where he is scheduled to meet senior government officials and business leaders. He will then travel to Chennai on October 15 for discussions with local business representatives and Singapore companies operating in India.
The visit reflects Singapore’s continued efforts to deepen its longstanding partnership with India, particularly in trade, investment, industrial development and technology.
During his Chennai visit, Gan will engage with business leaders and Singapore companies operating in the state. Singapore’s ministry highlighted Tamil Nadu’s importance as a major industrial centre and a significant economic partner.
The state has attracted Singapore-linked business activity across several sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, real estate and digital services.
“As India’s second-largest state economy and a major industrial hub, Tamil Nadu is an important economic partner for Singapore, with Singapore companies active across sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, real estate and digital services,” the ministry said.
The discussions are expected to provide an opportunity to strengthen commercial ties and explore further avenues for cooperation between businesses in Singapore and Tamil Nadu.
Gan will also meet representatives of ITE Education Services (ITEES) during his Chennai visit. The organisation is implementing the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for Advanced Manufacturing, a bilateral initiative under the Singapore Cooperation Programme.
The project reflects cooperation between the two countries in technical education and advanced manufacturing capabilities, areas considered important for industrial growth and workforce development.
In New Delhi, Gan will participate in the 8th Bloomberg New Economy (BNE) Forum, where he is scheduled to speak on a panel examining how countries are pursuing greater self-sufficiency amid changing global economic conditions.
Gan is also a member of the BNE Advisory Board.
He will be accompanied by officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Energy and Trade and Industry, the Economic Development Board and Enterprise Singapore.
The three-day visit underscores Singapore’s commitment to strengthening economic engagement with India through government-level discussions, business partnerships and institutional collaboration. It also highlights the importance of bilateral cooperation in manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital services and skills development as both countries pursue new economic opportunities.
