President Murmu Celebrates Raksha Bandhan with Students at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Calls for Protection of Trees

New Delhi, August 28: President Droupadi Murmu celebrated Raksha Bandhan with school students from different parts of the country at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, using the festival to highlight the importance of protecting the environment.

Interacting with the students, President Murmu said the message of Raksha Bandhan goes beyond family relationships and represents values such as love, care and protection. She encouraged children to extend these values to nature by tying rakhis to plants and trees.

Expressing concern over the growing imbalance in the environment, the President urged students to take responsibility for protecting and nurturing trees. She said that as the future generation of the country, students should turn tree plantation and conservation into a long-term commitment.

The special Raksha Bandhan programme brought together 122 participants, including 89 students and 32 teachers. The participating students and representatives came from 17 states and one Union Territory, along with institutions under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

The event also ensured participation of 13 Children with Special Needs (CwSN), making the celebration more inclusive.

As part of the educational experience surrounding the programme, the students also visited prominent national institutions and landmarks, including the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Amrit Udyan.

The President’s interaction turned the traditional festival into an occasion to encourage young minds to understand their responsibility towards nature and the wider society.
