Raebareli, August 24, 2026; Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent comments concerning Manusmriti, accusing him of repeatedly questioning India’s cultural traditions.

Addressing the issue, Adityanath said Gandhi’s position was inconsistent with the constitutional oath taken by elected representatives. He alleged that despite pledging allegiance to the Constitution, Gandhi treats criticism of India’s traditional heritage as a matter of entitlement.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid a political exchange over Manusmriti, an ancient Hindu legal and social text that has remained a subject of debate over its historical and social significance.

Adityanath defended India’s civilisational traditions while taking aim at Gandhi’s comments, turning the issue into another point of political confrontation between the BJP and Congress.

The exchange comes as debates over India‘s history, cultural identity and constitutional values continue to feature prominently in political discourse.
