PM Modi Pays Tribute to Partition Victims on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

New Delhi, August 14, 2026; Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to people who suffered during the Partition, recalling the displacement, loss and hardships faced by countless families during one of the most painful chapters in India’s history.

Marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, the Prime Minister said the tragedy left families separated, homes abandoned and many lives devastated. He also highlighted how survivors overcame the difficult circumstances, rebuilt their lives and played an important role in the country’s development.

Modi said the experiences of those who endured Partition reflect the resilience and determination of people who transformed adversity into new opportunities. He stressed the need to draw lessons from their struggles and strengthen the values of social harmony, fraternity and national unity.

The Prime Minister also called for a renewed commitment towards building a developed India, saying that collective efforts and a spirit of solidarity are essential for the country’s progress.

In a separate message, Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam to underline the importance of effort and perseverance. Through the verse, he conveyed that human initiative, hard work and enterprise are essential for the growth of knowledge, art, technology, craftsmanship and innovation.

He said people should not leave their ambitions entirely to destiny but should pursue their objectives with determination, courage and sustained effort.

The Prime Minister also expressed his respects to those who emerged from the trauma of Partition and made significant contributions to the nation. He urged citizens to further strengthen goodwill and unity while remembering the lessons of the past.
