NMDC Launches Summer Camps for 1,700 Tribal Children in Dantewada

NMDC has launched a month-long summer camp programme across 17 villages in Dantewada, providing tribal children with opportunities for learning, creativity, sports and personal development.

Dantewada, May 24, 2026: State-owned mining company NMDC has launched summer camps across 17 villages in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district to provide learning, creative and sports opportunities for children from tribal communities during their summer vacations.

The camps, being held from May 20 to June 15, 2026, are expected to benefit around 1,700 children. The initiative aims to engage youngsters in experiential learning activities while promoting creativity, teamwork and personal development.

Focus on Learning, Creativity and Sports

Children attending the camps spend three to four hours daily participating in reading sessions, craft activities and music workshops. The programme also includes popular outdoor games such as frisbee, kabaddi and kho-kho, followed by healthy refreshments.

Currently, daily attendance ranges between 30 and 40 children in each village, while mobilisation efforts continue to increase participation.

Partnership for Community Development

The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with WOSCA, an organisation working in the fields of education and community development.

The camps are designed to create a safe and supportive environment where children can learn new skills, explore their talents and build confidence.

Bridging Educational Gaps in Rural Areas

In many rural and tribal regions, access to structured creative learning opportunities remains limited. Through this programme, NMDC aims to bridge that gap by investing in the aspirations and potential of children at the grassroots level.

The initiative forms part of the company’s broader village development efforts and focuses on nurturing social, creative and leadership skills among children from underserved communities.

Growing Community Participation

The summer camps have received a positive response from children, parents and local stakeholders across participating villages. Community involvement continues to grow as the programme expands in the coming weeks.

NMDC has encouraged families and community members to actively participate in the initiative and help make the summer camps a meaningful learning experience for children in Dantewada.
