Postal Department Accelerates Transformation into Modern Logistics and Citizen Service Network

New Delhi, April 20, 2026: The Department of Posts has reported a historic revenue milestone of ₹15,296 crore in the financial year 2025–26, registering a 16 percent year on year growth as it continues its shift towards becoming a logistics and citizen centric service provider.

The performance review meeting was chaired by Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia, who assessed the department’s annual performance and outlined priorities for the next financial year.

Officials said India Post has shown strong expansion across multiple business verticals including parcels, mail services, financial services and citizen delivery platforms, marking one of its most significant growth phases in recent years.

The parcel segment emerged as the fastest growing category, followed by strong gains in mail and citizen service operations, reflecting increasing demand for delivery and public service access through postal networks.

The department’s financial inclusion arms, including Post Office Savings Bank and postal insurance services, also continued steady growth, contributing significantly to overall revenue expansion.

Officials highlighted that citizen centric services have seen a sharp rise, indicating growing utilisation of postal infrastructure for government and public utility services at the grassroots level.

The meeting noted that India Post is increasingly positioning itself as a hybrid logistics network, combining traditional postal services with modern express delivery capabilities to meet evolving market needs.

New premium delivery services introduced in March 2026, including time bound express parcel and speed post offerings, have begun contributing to operational efficiency and improved service competitiveness.

Circle wise performance review showed that a majority of regional postal divisions achieved high target completion rates, reflecting improved operational coordination across the country.

Officials also acknowledged strong contributions from several states where revenue performance exceeded expectations, highlighting balanced growth across regions.

At the same time, international mail services faced temporary pressure due to global economic uncertainties, though domestic segments remained strong. The department has also expanded partnerships with e commerce and government service platforms to strengthen last mile delivery and digital integration of services.

Authorities emphasised that future growth will be driven primarily by logistics expansion, technology adoption and deeper integration with digital governance systems. The review concluded with a renewed focus on transforming India Post into a modern service driven organisation while maintaining its nationwide accessibility and public service mandate.
