Lucknow, March 18: The Uttar Pradesh government has entered into an agreement with the Centre to boost access to clean drinking water, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reaffirming the goal of ensuring safe water supply for all residents.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is aligned with the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which focuses on providing functional tap water connections to every household. The agreement is expected to enhance coordination between the Centre and the state while accelerating ongoing water supply projects.
Officials indicated that the initiative will strengthen rural water infrastructure, improve service delivery, and ensure long-term sustainability of drinking water systems. The move comes as part of broader efforts to achieve universal household water access, a key priority under the national mission.
Uttar Pradesh has already made significant progress under the scheme, with millions of households receiving tap water connections in recent years. The latest agreement is expected to further expand coverage, particularly in underserved and remote regions, while improving water quality and reliability.
The development underscores the state government’s continued focus on public health, rural welfare, and infrastructure expansion, with clean drinking water positioned as a core element of inclusive growth.
