MDoNER Approves ₹45.31 Crore Mangoldoi–Mazikuchi Road Project to Boost Assam’s Connectivity

New Delhi – In a significant move to enhance road infrastructure in the Northeast, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has approved a ₹45.31 crore project for the construction of the Mangoldoi–Mazikuchi Road in Assam. The project, sanctioned on August 6, 2025, will cover a 15 km stretch from KM 11+000 to KM 26+200.

Implemented under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) – Roads, this initiative is set to bolster connectivity between Mangaldoi in Darrang district and Bhergaon, the Subdivision Headquarters of Udalguri district. The new road will reduce travel distance between the two hubs by 7.2 kilometers.

Key features of the project include improved access to seven educational institutions, including Deomornoi College, and better connectivity to significant cultural and historical tourist destinations such as the Pathurighat Krishak Shahid Memorial, Khotora Satra, and the historical Lakhimpur and Ramgaon Pukhuri sites.

Funded entirely by the Government of India, NESIDS (Roads) is a critical component of infrastructure development in the region. MDoNER, in close coordination with state governments, supervises and monitors the scheme to ensure timely and quality delivery.

The ministry is also spearheading development across the Northeast through its other flagship schemes: PM-DevINE, NESIDS–OTRI, and various schemes under the North Eastern Council (NEC).
