The Impressive TimesNew Delhi, 08 May 2025: On the occasion of International Nurses Day, Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Shri Vijender Gupta, paid a heartfelt tribute to the invaluable contributions of nurses and doctors, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing a gathering at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, Shri Gupta remarked, “When someone is in pain at a hospital, they often address a nurse as ‘Sister’. This is not merely a formality—it reflects the deep care and nurturing nurses provide, akin to that of a family member. Nurses embody the spirit of sacrifice, compassion, and dedication—virtues we should all aspire to cultivate in our lives.”
The event was organized by the Nurses Association of GTB Hospital to commemorate International Nurses Day 2025. Shri Vijender Gupta attended as the Chief Guest, joined by Special Guest Shri Jitender Mahajan, Hon’ble MLA of Rohtas Nagar, and Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Vinod Kumar, Medical Director of GTB Hospital.
Reflecting on the trials of the pandemic, Shri Gupta said, “We cannot forget the dark days of COVID-19. During those times, nursing staff displayed extraordinary courage and compassion, saving countless lives through their tireless efforts. Some even laid down their lives in service. Their dedication was nationally acknowledged, with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi himself commending the nursing community.”
He continued, “Today, nursing professionals are an integral part of many households, caring for the young and the elderly, even without familial ties. This trust is a testament to their professional excellence and compassionate nature. Their service transcends duty—it reflects the highest values of humanity.”
Recognizing the vital role of GTB Hospital, Shri Gupta stated, “This hospital is not only one of the largest in Delhi but also a crucial health facility for neighbouring states. Over time, it has consistently enhanced the quality of its healthcare services. Should there be any challenges or unmet needs, I urge the staff to bring them forward. As public representatives, we are committed to addressing them and extending our full support.”
In his concluding remarks, Shri Vijender Gupta expressed his deep appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff of GTB Hospital for their steadfast service to society, particularly during times of crisis.
