Chandigarh, May 3 : Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij strongly reacted to the Punjab government’s decision to tighten security at the Bhakra Dam and to stop the water supply. He said that “Punjab’s culture was to offer water to the thirsty through chhabils (free water stalls), but today, this same Punjab has snatched away the drinking water glass from the people of Haryana.”
Sh.Vij was interacting with the media persons today.
He advised the Punjab government that “in a federal structure, we cannot live with a ‘main-main’ attitude, we are interconnected with our neighboring states in one way or another.” He added that “Just like you (Punjab) have stopped our water, if we were to block your railways or roads, what would your condition be? However, we will not do this because we respect the country’s federal structure.”
Speaking on the all-party meeting in Haryana today regarding the water dispute, Cabinet Minister Anil Vij said that “It’s a good thing this meeting has been called. While we often fight over various issues, we have always come together and strategized on common interest matters.” Anil Vij also said that “Earlier, such meetings were held regarding the SYL canal water. We will proceed according to the decisions made in this meeting.”
“The former Punjab CM neither trusts nor believes in our army”- Vij
Former Congress Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi once again questioned the central government by raising the issue of surgical strikes and demanding proof. In response, Cabinet Minister Anil Vij criticized Channi, saying, “He neither trusts nor believes in our army. He believes more in what the Pakistanis say. He will only realize the truth the day Pakistan admits that India gave them a tough blow – he won’t accept it until then.”
