New Delhi, December 10: The five-day theater festival at the Shri Ram Center Auditorium is nearing its conclusion. Organized by the renowned Bihar-based cultural organization, Praveen Sanskritik Manch, this festival has garnered significant enthusiasm among theater lovers. On Monday, the play Gabar Ghichor, written by Bhikhari Thakur, was performed. On the final day, December 10, the play Rashmirathi, written by the national poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, was staged. The Gabar Ghichor drama poignantly portrays rural life.
The organizing committee has expressed their happiness over the audience’s participation and excitement for the upcoming Rashmirathi performance. In this play, the role of Karna was played by Hemant Mahour, while Lakshmi Mishra was portray by Kunti. The play has been conceptualized and directed by Vijayendra Kumar Tank. Rashmirathi is a famous poem written by the legendary poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, based on the Bhishma Parva of the Mahabharata, depicting the life story of Karna. The poem highlights Karna’s struggles, his loyalty, and his role in society.
A 35-member team led by senior theater director Vijayendra Tank from Bihar has left the audience spellbound with their performances at the festival. For the past 13 years, Praveen Sanskritik Manch has been striving to bring new dimensions to the theater in memory of renowned artist Praveen. This is the first time that a theater group from Bihar has organized a festival in the national capital, Delhi.
Bihar’s art and folk culture leave a unique mark on the entire Hindi-speaking theater scene. Particularly, the Bidesia theatrical style of Bihar is famous across the country. Many folk dance forms from Bihar serve as witnesses to the region’s glorious traditions.
