11 Houses, 7 shops gutted in Anantnag fire

Srinagar , 2nd July 2024 ;- In Srinagar, a devastating fire broke out in the Mehman Mohalla area of Anantnag district, South Kashmir, overnight, resulting in the destruction of at least 11 residential buildings and seven shops. Fire and Emergency officials reported that the fire started around 2:50 am in a house within the densely populated residential and commercial area. The flames quickly spread to nearby structures, including godowns and shops.

Approximately a dozen fire tenders were dispatched from various locations, including Anantnag, Mattan, Bijbehara, Achabal, Seer Hamdan, and Shangus, to combat the blaze. It took over five hours to bring the fire under control.

During the operation, a fire service mechanical driver, Imtiyaz Ahmad, sustained an injury to his arm after slipping and has been hospitalized. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
