In Maharashtra, the number of Zika virus cases in Pune is steadily rising, with five pregnant women and two other individuals testing positive yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the district to 72. Of these, Pune city alone has reported 65 cases.
Among the new infections are five pregnant women, an 18-year-old youth, and a 40-year-old man. Despite the increase, the routine scans of the unborn babies of the pregnant women have shown normal results. The Pune District Health Department anticipates further case increases as more examination reports from the National Institute of Virology and Sassoon Hospital are awaited.
The Pune Municipal Corporation is urging residents to remain vigilant against the Zika virus. A team from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) is actively collecting samples of mosquitoes and larvae from locations with confirmed Zika cases. If any sample tests positive, it indicates contamination, helping to trace the source and potential vectors of the infection.
