Greater Noida : An Enlightening Workshop organized by IISSM on Fire & Earthquake Emergency Preparedness was held in Greater Noida’s Omaxe Palm Greens on 28th April 2024.
Our Country witnesses some form of disaster every day. The changing climate has intensified its frequency and severity of these disasters. The Delhi NCR region is grappling with situations of fire outbreaks in hospitals, high-rise buildings, and factories. Fire safety and disaster management are essential to prevent damage. When we assess urban scenarios with high density and population, complexities increase. This notion was emphasized by experts in disaster management at a community empowerment program-cum-workshop titled “AAPDA: Hum Tayyar Hain,” held at Omaxe Palm Greens in Greater Noida. The objective of this awareness program was to provide insight to residents on dealing with fires and other disaster-related incidents and to prepare them accordingly.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri R.K. Sinha, Executive Chairman of IISSM and a former Rajya Sabha MP, stressed that disasters can strike anytime. He lamented that during the day when disasters strike, there is often no one present in multi-storey buildings except for the elderly, women, and children. He iterated that IISSM is organizing this nationwide awareness and empowerment program which commences from this residential area, which houses more than 1000 flats. He also stated that IISSM will continue organizing such initiatives to save lives.
Sinha also said that incidents keep happening, and they cannot be stopped. However, the loss of life and property occurs due to lack of information. The aim of IISSM is to inform and educate people and they are not doing this for any personal gain.
Ms Lakshmi V.S., Additional CEO of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), stated that the authority will extend all possible support to IISSM in this noble and pertinent awareness campaign.
CEO IIISM, Professor Santosh Kumar emphasized that it’s a process of empowering people to prepare to respond at the crucial time where there is no external support. People have to be prepared for the first 60 seconds (specially in an Earthquake situation). He emphasiaed that such Awareness-cum-Demonstration events will help in decentralizing capacity from local-family- individual levels. He reitreated the purpose of this initiative and exhorted all present to learn from this event which had the best in the Industry present.
The One-day Workshop was addressed by various dignitaries including CEO of IISSM Santosh Kumar, Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University Professor R.K. Sinha, Ex Chief Fire Officer of Delhi Government Mr S.K. Dheri, Mrs Renu Mattoo, BoG Members including Mrs Ratna Sinha and many others.
Over three hundred Residents of Omaxe Palm Green enthusiastically participated in the Workshop and even shared their experiences. Training on Fire Drills and Safety was also provided with a presentation by Dr MK Jain, Director Fire Safety, IISSM and demonstration by a SIS Team led by Mr RP Singh and conducted with professional gusto by Mr RK Trivedi and with help of AOA, Omaxe Palm Green, as partners during the Workshop with Demonstration organised by IISSM with support of Yatharth Hospitals.

IISSM is committed to security, skilling, and best practices, while also sharing significant social responsibilities in informing citizens and keeping them safe.
Disasters are highly uncertain and can strike suddenly. To prevent loss of life and property damage, people need to be informed about prevention and equipped with skills, and they must remain prepared.
IISSM endeavours to take this Intiative ahead on a Pan-India basis.
