Manav Rachna Dental College Leads the Charge in Tobacco Cessation Awareness

● Renowned experts Prof. (Dr.) Vikrant Mohanty and Dr. Deeksha Sethi emphasized the role of dental institutions in tobacco cessation

Faridabad, June 7, 2024 – In a concerted effort to combat the detrimental effects of tobacco consumption, NABH Accredited Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC) conducted a 10-day awareness program on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. The multifaceted initiative aimed to raise awareness about the harmful consequences of tobacco use, particularly targeting children and adolescents, and promote tobacco cessation through various educational and outreach activities.

The program encompassed dental screening camps, pledge ceremonies, Nukkad Natak (street play), tobacco cessation counseling sessions, and educational initiatives across multiple locations in Faridabad. Highlighting the pivotal role of dental institutions in tobacco cessation, MRDC hosted an enlightening guest lecture by Prof. (Dr.) Vikrant Mohanty, Head of Public Health Dentistry at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences and Joint Secretary of IAPHD, and Dr. Deeksha Sethi, a Clinical Psychologist with the National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation.

Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President – MREI, commended the program’s impact, saying, “Early intervention and education are crucial in preventing the adoption of harmful habits like tobacco consumption. Initiatives like these not only raise awareness but also instill a sense of responsibility and empowerment among our youth, paving the way for a healthier future generation.”

Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Vice Chancellor – MRIIRS, emphasized the collaborative efforts, stating, “The success of this program is a testament to the collective efforts of our faculty, students, and community partners. It demonstrated the power of unity in driving positive change and creating a lasting impact on public health.”

Dr. Puneet Batra, Principal – MRDC, expressed his pride in the college’s initiatives, “As a leading dental institution, we recognize our responsibility in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by tobacco use. This program exemplifies our commitment to empowering our students and the community with the knowledge and skills necessary to combat this global health issue effectively,” he said.

The 10-day awareness program witnessed active participation from individuals of all ages and communities, reflecting the rising acknowledgment of the adverse effects of tobacco.
