Faridabad : A Capacity Building Programme organised by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) on ‘Life Skills’ for teacher development was held at D.A.V. Public School, Sector 37, Faridabad on 11th September 2025 under the dynamic leadership of school Principal, Ms. Deepti Jagota who is always enthusiastic to provide the best opportunities for the growth and development of the staff and students.
The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Kusum Chaudhry and Ms. Neelima Chakraborty, distinguished trainers in life skills education and experts in the field of teacher training. The resource persons emphasized that teachers are role models, and by practicing life skills themselves, they can naturally transmit these values to their students.
The programme focussed on the three broad categories of life skills, namely Thinking Skills, Social Skills and Emotional Skills. It aimed to empower teachers with ideas to amalgamate life skills into their teaching and to enhance their own professional effectiveness. The programme highlighted key life skills such as empathy, effective communication, classroom management, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and innovative teaching practices.

The programme began with the ceremonious lighting of lamp, and an ice-breaker activity, setting an interactive and engaging tone for the day. The first session focused on perspective building, helping teachers understand the importance of life skills in education. The second session emphasized transacting life skills, with activities that showcased practical strategies and storytelling as effective tools for nurturing essential values and skills in students. The third session centred on familiarization through activities like group discussions, story sessions and enactments where participants actively engaged in hands-on exercises to explore the classroom application of life skills.

Teachers were trained on how to foster a positive classroom environment, encourage student participation, and instil problem-solving and decision-making abilities in learners. Handouts were designed and distributed to make the learning experience engaging and practical.
The workshop was highly enriching for the teachers and successfully inculcated in the teachers the perspective of giving students a humanistic system of education, where they not only study the subject matter, but also grow into emotionally balanced and empathetic individuals.
