PM Modi launches ₹9,000 crore development projects in Mizoram; Aizawl joins India’s railway map

 New Delhi/Aizawl – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in Aizawl, Mizoram, spanning railways, roads, energy, sports, and education.

Calling it a “historic day” for Mizoram, the Prime Minister announced that Aizawl is now officially on India’s railway map with the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang rail line worth ₹8,070 crore. He also flagged off three new trains — Sairang–Delhi Rajdhani Express, Sairang–Guwahati Express, and Sairang–Kolkata Express — directly linking Mizoram to major Indian cities for the first time.

PM Modi emphasized that the North East is becoming India’s growth engine, and Mizoram will play a key role in the Act East Policy and the emerging North East Economic Corridor. He highlighted that the new connectivity will boost trade, tourism, education, and healthcare access, while also generating jobs.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for key road projects including the 45 km Aizawl Bypass Road under PM-DevINE, the Thenzawl–Sialsuk Road, and the Khankawn–Rongura Road to benefit farmers and improve market access.

Other major initiatives included:

  • Chhimtuipui River Bridge on Lawngtlai–Siaha Road to cut travel time by 2 hours.

  • Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Hall at Tuikual for sports development.

  • 30 TMTPA LPG Bottling Plant at Mualkhang to ensure steady LPG supply.

  • Residential School at Kawrthah and Eklavya Model Residential School at Tlangnuam to boost quality education for tribal youth.

On reforms, PM Modi underlined that NextGen GST has lowered taxes on essential goods and services, making healthcare, daily essentials, and travel more affordable. He noted that GST cuts on hotels and eateries will especially benefit tourist hubs like the North East.

Highlighting India’s strong economic performance, the PM said:

  • India grew 7.8% in Q1 2025-26, making it the world’s fastest growing major economy.

  • “Made in India” weapons showcased strength during Operation Sindoor, linking economic growth with national security.

Concluding, PM Modi congratulated Mizoram for its new place on India’s railway map, and expressed confidence that the state’s youth, farmers, and entrepreneurs would be central to building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

The event was attended by Mizoram Governor Gen V.K. Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, among other dignitaries.
