Jaipur, August 2 , 2024 : The redevelopment of the Udaipur City Railway Station is being carried out at a rapid pace by the railway authorities, aiming to provide world-class facilities. This project is being undertaken with an investment of approximately ₹354 crore. The target for completing the redevelopment work of Udaipur City Station is set for October 2025.
The redevelopment of the station involves incorporating the traditions of the Mewar region with modern architecture and heritage in the building construction. The main part of the building will reflect the local heritage of the Udaipur area and showcase the rich culture of Rajasthan.
The redevelopment of stations on the North Western Railway is being executed in mission mode under the guidance of General Manager Mr. Amitabh.
Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, Captain Shashi Kiran told The Impressive Times that
as part of the redevelopment of Udaipur City Station, the existing station building located towards the second entrance has been completely demolished. The structural work of the new building’s RCC frame and basement has been completed, and finishing work is ongoing. Structural work on the main entrance building, a new RPF station, and other construction activities are being conducted.
The existing parking area located towards the second entrance has been relocated to an alternative site. Additionally, the statue of Maharana Pratap located in the circulating area has been moved to an alternative location.
The redevelopment work at Udaipur City Station will include numerous passenger amenities, such as a departure block with a cloakroom, inquiry office, restrooms, baggage scanner, access control gates, and kiosks. The arrival block will feature a ticket counter, restrooms, tourist information center, access control gates, railway office, CCTV room, server room, baby care room, porter room, ticket counter, inquiry office, baggage scanner, and premium retiring rooms.
Udaipur City Railway Station is designed to accommodate approximately 40,000 passengers per day. A large roof plaza/concourse, measuring 56 meters by 72 meters, will connect the buildings on both sides and all platforms, offering retail shops, cafeterias, shopping centers, and other facilities in one place. To accommodate the increased passenger load, seating arrangements for 1,000 passengers will be made, along with the development of facilities such as an executive lounge, tourist information center, and food court.
As part of this project, an area of about 86,000 square meters will be developed, including the east and west station buildings, offices, concourse, basement, parking area, platforms, and track roofing. Approximately 9,000 square meters will be covered by new platform shelters, with 20 lifts and 26 escalators installed for passengers.
Parking facilities will be provided on both sides of the station, with an 11,433 square meter parking area developed in the basement to accommodate 600 four-wheelers, 200 auto rickshaws, and 270 two-wheelers simultaneously.
The complete redevelopment of Udaipur Station, known as the City of Lakes, will be evident from its grand and attractive building. The entire project will include green building features aimed at reducing energy consumption during construction, operation, and maintenance, along with renewable energy resources, waste processing, and rainwater harvesting.
