New Delhi – The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully conducting two consecutive flight-tests of the Pralay missile on July 28 and 29, 2025. The tests were carried out from the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast as part of User Evaluation Trials, aimed at validating both the maximum and minimum range capabilities of the missile system.
According to an official statement, the missile followed the designated trajectory with pin-point accuracy, achieving all test objectives. The performance of all subsystems met expectations, as verified by data from tracking sensors and ship-based instruments positioned near the target area.
The Pralay missile is a solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic missile designed indigenously and equipped with state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems. Capable of carrying multiple types of warheads, it is designed to strike various kinds of targets with high precision.
The development of Pralay involved collaboration between multiple DRDO laboratories, including the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, and others. Key industry partners include Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, along with contributions from MSMEs.
The test launches were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Army and Air Force, and industry delegates.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended DRDO and the Armed Forces for the success, stating that the missile, equipped with cutting-edge technology, will enhance the country’s defensive capabilities.
Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, also lauded the teams, emphasizing that the successful completion of Phase-1 testing clears the path for the system’s induction into the Armed Forces soon.
