West Bengal & Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: Voting Trends, Seats, Result Date and Key Highlights

Strong voter turnout marks polling day in two major states

Voting for the 2026 Assembly Elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu is underway, witnessing enthusiastic participation from citizens across both states. From politicians to celebrities and first-time voters, people have been lining up at polling stations since morning to cast their votes.

West Bengal has 294 assembly seats, while Tamil Nadu is voting for 234 seats.

To form the government, a party or alliance must secure:

  • 148 seats in West Bengal
  • 118 seats in Tamil Nadu

Polling began at 7:00 AM and will continue until 6:00 PM.

  • Tamil Nadu: Voting is being held in a single phase across all 234 constituencies
  • West Bengal: The election is being conducted in phases, with 152 constituencies across 16 districts voting in the first phase
  • Voter turnout recorded till 5 PM: 82.24%
  • Kumarapalayam reported the highest participation
  • Chennai recorded the lowest turnout (around 81%)
  • Voter turnout recorded till 3 PM: 89.93%
  • Raghunathganj saw the highest turnout (over 95%)
  • Kurseong recorded the lowest turnout (around 81%)

As per the Election Commission schedule, counting of votes will take place on May 4, 2026.

Results for the following will also be declared on the same day:

  • Kerala Assembly Elections
  • Assam Assembly Elections
  • Puducherry Assembly Elections
  • Bypolls in multiple states
  • Voting on April 9 was held in parts of Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura
  • Voting on April 23 is being conducted in select constituencies of Gujarat and Maharashtra

Long queues at polling stations indicate strong voter engagement. Security arrangements have been tightened to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of elections across both states.

The Assembly Elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu are crucial for the political landscape of both states. With high voter turnout already recorded, all eyes are now set on May 4, 2026, when the final results will be announced.
