Hyderabad, June 29, 2026: Veldurthi Goods Shed of Hyderabad Division (SCR) has been notified as an Exclusive Container Rail Terminal (ECRT) on 10.6.2026, under the policy initiative of Indian Railways aimed at promoting containerized freight movement through Railway-owned goods sheds. It is the first goods shed in Hyderabad Division to be notified as an Exclusive Container Rail Terminal, marking a major step towards expanding multimodal logistics and attracting new streams of container traffic.
Veldurthi Goods Shed of South Central Railway achieved a significant milestone by successfully loading its first container rake on 25th June 2026.
The rake was dispatched by Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) to the Inland Container Depot (ICD), Phillaur of Firozpur Division of Northern Railway catering to the requirements of the steel industry.
The rake carried 2,760 tonnes of Pig Iron, marking the introduction of a new commodity from Veldurthi Goods Shed. Notably, Veldurthi has become the first and only goods shed in the reorganized South Central Railway Zone to load Pig Iron in containers.
The movement generated an estimated freight revenue of ₹59 lakh, reflecting the growing potential of the goods shed in attracting high-value freight traffic and expanding its commodity basket. The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has committed to loading three container rakes per month from the newly notified Exclusive Container Rail Terminal.
South Central Railway remains committed to enhancing freight services through customer-oriented initiatives and infrastructure development, thereby contributing to increased freight loading and revenue generation.
