Aizawl, May 29, 2026: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting on the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban in Mizoram, directing state officials to prepare a time-bound action plan to improve visible cleanliness outcomes across urban areas.

During the review, the Union Minister identified 18 key issues related to visible cleanliness, aligning with the priorities highlighted by the Prime Minister during the recent PRAGATI review held on May 27, 2026. He stressed that urban sanitation and cleanliness must show measurable and sustained improvement on the ground.

The meeting was attended by Mizoram Urban Development Minister K. Sapdanga, Power Minister F. Rodingliana, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Power, and the Mizoram Urban Development and Power departments.

Manohar Lal directed the state government to submit a detailed action plan with clear timelines and measurable outcomes. He also urged Mizoram to expedite the release of its 10 percent matching share against the 90 percent central assistance already provided under the SBM-U framework.

The Union Minister further announced that the Centre will support capacity building in the North East by training local youth in advanced technologies such as LiDAR and drone-based surveys for assessing and managing legacy waste. He also suggested extending similar training initiatives across other Northeastern states.

Reiterating the Centre’s commitment, the Minister emphasized that the goal of SBM-U is to ensure visible, sustainable, and long-term cleanliness improvements in urban areas, in line with the vision of the Prime Minister.
