New Delhi- A four-storey residential building collapsed in Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a search and rescue operation by the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). Several people are feared to be trapped beneath the debris.
The Delhi Fire Services received information about the collapse at around 3:30 pm and immediately deployed fire tenders to the site. Rescue personnel are currently conducting search operations to locate and evacuate those who may be trapped.
A DFS officer said the rescue operation was underway following the incident, with teams working through the debris.
The building collapse also disrupted traffic movement in and around the Seemapuri area. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory covering Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads.
Commuters were advised to avoid the affected area wherever possible. The traffic police also appealed to motorists and members of the public not to stop, park or gather near the collapse site so that ambulances and emergency rescue vehicles can move without obstruction.
The latest incident comes weeks after a boys’ PG building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on September 6 during repair work. Seven people were killed and several others were injured in that incident.
Following the Satya Niketan collapse, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi intensified enforcement action against dangerous buildings, unauthorised constructions and violations of the Master Plan of Delhi and building bye-laws.
According to an ANI report cited in the source, the civic body carried out demolition drives in several areas on Tuesday, including Old Seemapuri.
The rescue operation at the Seemapuri site remains underway, with authorities focused on locating any people who may still be trapped under the collapsed structure.
