The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has significantly expanded its flagship ‘School Connect’ Program, offering 10 online, hands-on certificate courses to students in Classes 10, 11, and 12 across India. Previously limited to two courses — Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Electronic Systems — the initiative now includes a broader range of subjects designed to expose school students to emerging academic and career fields early on.
Registrations for the August 2025 batch are now open, with schools invited to enrol students by July 25, 2025, at code.iitm.ac.in/schoolconnect. The eight-week-long programs offer interactive learning, assignments, and optional project work for practical experience.
Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the importance of early academic engagement: “At IIT Madras, we believe that early exposure to emerging fields can spark curiosity and shape future innovators. By empowering students at a formative stage, we are investing in a future-ready nation.”
Organized by the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) at IIT Madras, the School Connect Program aims to bridge the educational gap between school-level curriculum and higher education. It encourages students to explore diverse subjects beyond traditional syllabi, helping them make informed academic and career choices.
Courses offered under the program include:
Introduction to Data Science and AI
Introduction to Electronic Systems
Introduction to Architecture & Design
Fun with Math and Computing
Math Unplugged: Games & Puzzles
Introduction to Ecology
Introduction to Engineering Biological Systems
Introduction to Law
The Fundamentals of Aerospace
Humanities Unplugged
The initiative is designed to be flexible, with three batches scheduled per academic year — in August, October, and January — allowing students to pursue up to three courses annually. Each course includes guided learning material developed by IIT Madras faculty and interactive components to encourage curiosity-driven exploration.
By expanding its School Connect Program, IIT Madras continues to pave the way for inclusive and futuristic education that empowers young minds nationwide.
