NEW DELHI, 21 JUNE: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of purpose, aligning with this year’s global theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. The event witnessed active participation from officers and staff of the Ministry, led by Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary (MDoNER), along with senior officials.
In his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced this year’s theme, highlighting the role of yoga as a catalyst for environmental sustainability and collective well‑being. The Prime Minister emphasized, “Yoga Day has evolved into a grand global festival. It is a priceless gift from India to the world — one that will benefit future generations.”
Since its first global proposal by Shri Modi at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, International Day of Yoga has emerged as a global movement. The United Nations proclaimed June 21st as the International Day of Yoga, making it an annual celebration embraced by millions across nations. Today, it serves as a symbol of spiritual unity, transcending borders, cultures, and communities — a bridge between individual consciousness and the universal consciousness.
The Sanskrit term ‘yuj’, the root of the word ‘yoga’, means “to unite” or “to join” — signifying the deep harmony between the mind, body, and nature. The theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” reflects this sacred philosophy, underscoring the global relevance of yoga in promoting a balanced, sustainable, and healthy planet.
With its heritage deeply rooted in spirituality and well‑being, India has positioned itself as a beacon of yoga for the world, inspiring people across the globe to adopt this ancient practice for a healthier and harmonious life. Today, the widespread global participation in IDY stands as a testament to its universal appeal and benefits.
Through initiatives like International Day of Yoga, MDoNER reaffirms its commitment to nurturing a culture of holistic health and well‑being, and to reinforcing India’s role as a global leader in yoga and wellness.
