CYBER BLACKMAIL AND EXTORTION RACKET BUSTED: ACCUSED IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

NEW DELHI, 30 MAY: The complainant reported that in 2021, she met with a boy through Instagram and they became friends. Over time, under manipulation and emotional pressure, she was coerced into sharing private images and videos with him.
Later, she began receiving threatening messages, extortion attempts, and sexually harassing chats from unknown individuals using multiple fake Instagram accounts and email IDs. Alarmed, she confronted her friend, who told her that his laptop had been damaged and that a shopkeeper (technician) who repaired it may have stolen the data. Following this, she continued to face sustained harassment, including:
• Creation of fake profiles using her private images,
• Coercion to perform inappropriate acts over Instagram and Google Meet video calls,
• Extortion demands (including ₹1 lakh),
• Threats of kidnapping, acid attacks, harm to her family, and
• Fake legal threats, such as fabricated messages about FIRs and involvement in a murder case.
This cycle of abuse and blackmail lasted for over three years, causing her extreme mental and emotional distress. Hence, a case FIR No. 41/25, dated 28.05.2025, U/s 75, 77, 78, 79, 308(2) BNS & 66E, 67, 67A IT Act, was registered at P.S Cyber Shahdara and investigation was taken up.
INVESTIGATION AND TECHNICAL FINDINGS:-
Seeing the gravity of the case, a dedicated team led by Inspector Shiv Prakash, comprising ASI Sanjeev Kumar, HC Sajjan, and HC Kuldeep, was constituted under the close supervision of Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO/Cyber Shahdara, and the overall supervision of Sh. Gurudev Singh, ACP/Ops.
The complainant reported a total of nine fake Instagram accounts and one Gmail ID linked to the harassment. Upon inquiry, digital evidence analysis, and responses received from Meta and Google, mobile number 7011684572 was found to have been used to create the alleged Instagram IDs. This mobile number was registered in the name of the accused mother, but was being used by the accused himself.
Hence, accused (Ex-Friend of Victim) was apprehended on 29.05.2025. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the creation, sharing, and use of the compromised data, as well as the sexual exploitation of the victim. The accused has been sent to judicial custody.
PROFILE OF THE ACCUSED:-
The accused, who is 37 years old is a graduate from Delhi University. His family runs a sanitary business, located in Friends Colony Industrial Area, Shahdara, Delhi. He is married and has a 12-year-old daughter.

SEIZED ITEMS:-
1) Two mobile phones containing 3 Nude and seminude photographs of the victim & One screen shot having fake Instagram ID with Password from the mobile of the accused
2) One Laptop.

APPEAL TO PUBLIC:-
The Delhi Police appeals to all social media users, especially minors and young women, to exercise extreme caution while sharing personal content online. Parents and guardians are also advised to remain aware of children’s digital interactions.
The Cyber Crime Unit remains committed to ensuring a safe digital environment and bringing such perpetrators to justice.
