Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani Reunite for Biopic on Indian Cinema Legend Dadasaheb Phalke

Mumbai, May 15 — In what promises to be one of the most anticipated collaborations in recent years, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani are coming together once again — this time for a powerful biopic on the father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke.

According to industry sources, the project has been in development for several months and is now gaining momentum. The film will trace the life, struggles, and groundbreaking achievements of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke, who made India’s first full-length feature film Raja Harishchandra in 1913. His contribution laid the foundation for the multi-billion dollar Indian film industry as we know it today.

This marks the first collaboration between Aamir and Hirani since their blockbuster success with PK (2014). While Aamir Khan had taken a brief hiatus from acting following Laal Singh Chaddha, he is now reportedly back in action, and the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic could be his next major on-screen appearance.

Hirani, known for blending social messages with compelling storytelling in films like Munna Bhai MBBS, 3 Idiots, and PK, is said to be personally involved in writing the script. The biopic will aim to authentically capture the early days of Indian cinema — the technological challenges, cultural resistance, and personal sacrifices that Phalke endured in his pursuit of cinematic excellence.

An official announcement is expected soon, but insiders suggest the film will go on floors in late 2025, with extensive period sets being planned to recreate the early 1900s. A dedicated team of researchers and historians are also said to be working closely with the production unit to ensure historical accuracy.

Speaking about the project in an earlier interaction, Aamir Khan had expressed his admiration for Dadasaheb Phalke’s pioneering spirit. “His journey deserves to be told on the biggest canvas. He wasn’t just making movies — he was building a nation’s cinematic identity,” Aamir had said.

Fans and cinema lovers alike are eagerly awaiting this tribute to a man who started it all. With two cinematic heavyweights like Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani joining forces, expectations are sky-high for what could be a landmark film in Indian cinema.
