Indian, Pakistani Forces Exchange Gunfire in J&K’s Nowgam Sector

Srinagar, April 25 ,2025 – As tensions rise over the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian and Pakistani forces engaged in small arms fire in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara district, according to official sources.

The incident occurred just hours before Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi’s scheduled visit to Kashmir on Friday.

Sources indicated that the firing was initiated by Pakistan, but Indian soldiers promptly retaliated, effectively countering the attack.

“The exchange of fire lasted for over an hour, and there have been no reports of casualties,” sources confirmed.

The Srinagar-based defense spokesperson refrained from commenting on the matter.

This marks the first ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir in recent times. The growing tension between India and Pakistan, sparked by the brutal attack on tourists near Pahalgam, which claimed 26 civilian lives, has caused alarm among residents living near the border. There are concerns that the long-standing ceasefire agreement between the two nations may not hold under the current strain.
