Om Birla: Indian Students Abroad are True Ambassadors of India’s Culture

New Delhi, April 8,2025: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, during his four-day visit to Uzbekistan, praised Indian students studying abroad as “ambassadors of India’s values and culture.” He emphasized that despite being miles away from home, these students remain deeply connected to their Indian roots and actively represent the nation’s traditions in their host countries.

Birla made these remarks while interacting with Indian students at Samarkand Medical University, highlighting how these students contribute to shaping a positive image of India globally. He underscored that New India is now regarded as a “land of opportunities,” driven by ongoing reforms across various sectors, as mentioned by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Tuesday.

Referring to the country’s health sector, Birla pointed out national initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, which have opened vast opportunities in healthcare. With the expansion of Ayushman Bharat to include both government and private hospitals, Birla noted that there are now numerous opportunities for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG) to gain experience and contribute meaningfully to India’s healthcare system.

He also assured the students that India cares deeply about the well-being of its citizens around the world and is committed to supporting Indian students abroad. “Indian doctors have earned a global reputation, and you are continuing this proud legacy. The knowledge and expertise you gain will enhance healthcare systems across the globe,” Birla said.

Birla encouraged the students to not only focus on academic excellence but also to embody values such as dedication and compassion, which are integral to personal and professional success.

In addition to engaging with students, Birla also met with members of the Indian diaspora in Uzbekistan. He lauded their unwavering affection for India, describing it as a source of inspiration. The Speaker highlighted India’s rise as the world’s fastest-growing economy, noting that the country’s global standing in innovation has created vast opportunities. He urged the Indian diaspora to play an active role in driving economic growth through investment and innovation.

Birla also emphasized that the bond between India and Uzbekistan transcends official visits and formal agreements. It is based on people-to-people connections, cultural exchanges, and mutual respect. During his trip, which coincided with the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, Birla discussed strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and enhancing cooperation in sectors such as trade, tourism, and innovation.
