NEW DELHI, 7 APRIL 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has exposed the BJP’s double standards on the Rohingya issue before the entire nation. Senior AAP leader and MLA Sanjeev Jha called out the BJP for deceiving Delhi’s voters by campaigning against Rohingyas and then quietly facilitating their settlement.
Sanjeev Jha pointed to the admission of 19 Rohingya children in two government schools in BJP Minister Kapil Mishra’s Karawal Nagar constituency as evidence of the party’s duplicity.
During a press conference, senior AAP leader and MLA, Sanjeev Jha, exposed BJP’s hypocrisy on the issue of Rohingyas, stating, “BJP makes Rohingyas an election issue every single time—whether it’s elections in Delhi or anywhere else in the country. Today, I will expose how the BJP itself is the one giving protection to Rohingyas.”
Referring to BJP’s promises during previous elections, he highlighted, “In the run-up to the 2025 elections, several top BJP leaders in Delhi publicly declared that if they were voted to power, their first step would be to identify and expel Rohingyas from the city. Even the Union Home Minister himself, while campaigning, said from the stage that if the BJP forms the government in Delhi, then within a year, they would identify and remove all Rohingyas from the city.”
The AAP MLA cited concrete examples from Delhi schools and stated, “But after the elections were over and the government was formed, they are actively providing protection to them. Rohingya children are being admitted into government schools in Delhi.”
“The BJP claims they are trying to identify them—but they are not just aware of their presence but are also giving them protection. Nine Rohingya children have been admitted to SKV, a Delhi government school in Khajuri Khas. Ten more children have been admitted to Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, also in Khajuri Khas,” revealed the AAP MLA.
Sanjeev Jha added, “While they pretend to go around with torches searching for these people, in reality, they are looking for where to quietly settle them. And now they’ve been caught red-handed.”
He stressed that both of these schools fall in the Karawal Nagar constituency of Delhi, which is represented by BJP leader Kapil Mishra. “This is the same Kapil Mishra who, as per a recent court observation, was prima facie found to be involved in the Delhi riots. So you can now clearly see their double standards. It’s like the saying goes—an elephant has two sets of tusks: one to show and one to eat with. These people say one thing and do something entirely different,” he asserted.
On BJP’s recent defence citing a Supreme Court order, Sanjeev Jha clarified, “I recently heard a BJP leader claim that all this is happening due to a Supreme Court order. There is no such directive from the Supreme Court. What the Court has said is that eligibility should be checked, and if the student is eligible, then admission should be given.”
Questioning the implications of BJP’s interpretation, he added, “That means BJP is now officially accepting that Rohingyas living in Delhi are eligible for admission in government schools. You have, in effect, acknowledged them as residents of Delhi.”
Sanjeev Jha pointed out to BJP’s selective respect for Supreme Court rulings, saying, “And if BJP is so fond of citing Supreme Court rulings, let me remind them that the Supreme Court has also said that power in Delhi should lie with the elected government. If they really respected the court, they wouldn’t have passed an illegal law in Parliament stripping Delhi’s elected government of its powers.”
“When the court said that the Election Commission should have a representative of the opposition, the Prime Minister, and the Chief Justice of India, BJP went ahead and changed the law. Back then, you had no regard for the court. But when it comes to Rohingyas, suddenly you use the court to justify making them residents,” he asserted.
The AAP MLA highlighted the political motive behind sheltering Rohingyas, “This clearly shows that Rohingyas are being settled in Delhi and other parts of the country so that BJP can keep using them as an election agenda. Settle them quietly, then cry foul during polls, fight elections over the same issue, and secure votes.”
He raised deeper questions around border infiltration, stating, “A lot has already been discussed about how these Rohingyas reach Delhi in the first place—how they cross the border, how no one stops them at the borders. Whether it’s letting them cross or settling them in Delhi, this entire game is played with one aim in mind—to make them a poll issue and reap electoral gains.”
Sanjeev Jha said to the BJP: you misled Delhiites in the name of Rohingyas and took their votes. But when it came to action, you protected them and started treating them like legal citizens. This duplicity stands exposed. Delhiites voted for you based on your promises. You won’t fulfil them, and in the next election raise the same Rohingya issue again.
He added, “It has become evident that BJP never keeps the promises it makes and always acts on things it never says. I remind the BJP government in Delhi and the Union Home Minister of the promises they made—to first identify the Rohingyas and then remove them. We’ve given you data. You must tell the people of Delhi and the country where all you’ve settled them.”
“If you don’t, the public will teach you a lesson. This kind of deceitful politics—of misleading people, taking votes, and then repeating the same lies—must end” concluded Sanjeev Jha.
