Rajkot, January 15, 2025: Smriti Mandhana has etched her name in the history books as the fastest Indian Women’s cricketer to score a century in One-Day Internationals (WODIs).
Mandhana reached the three-figure mark in just 70 balls against Ireland in Rajkot on Wednesday, breaking the previous record held by fellow cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, who had scored a century in 87 balls against South Africa in Bengaluru in 2024.
Mandhana’s remarkable century surpasses several other notable fast centuries by Indian women cricketers. Harmanpreet’s 90-ball century against Australia in Derby in 2017, Jemimah Rodrigues’ 90-ball century against Ireland in Rajkot in 2025, and Harleen Deol’s 98-ball century against West Indies in Vadodara in 2024 have all been memorable milestones.
Mandhana’s century not only secures her place in Indian cricket history but also ties her with former England cricketers Charlotte Edwards and Tammy Beaumont, both of whom have 10 centuries in WODIs. At the top of the all-time list are Meg Lanning with 15 centuries and Suzie Bates with 13. Close behind them are Chamari Athapaththu, Edwards, and Nat Sciver-Brunt, all of whom have 9 centuries in the format.
Mandhana’s achievement showcases her exceptional skill and consistency, further solidifying her position as one of the premier batswomen in women’s international cricket. Since the beginning of 2024, Mandhana has been in scintillating form, accumulating a remarkable 996 runs from just 16 innings. With an impressive average of 62.25 and a strike rate of 105.06, she continues to set new benchmarks in women’s ODIs.
During this period, Mandhana has scored five centuries and four fifties, establishing herself as one of the most consistent and dominant performers in the format. Notably, no other batswoman has surpassed 700 runs in this period, further highlighting her remarkable consistency.
Mandhana’s ability to consistently perform at the highest level has not only elevated her own career but has also raised the profile of women’s cricket globally. As she continues to break records and create new milestones, Mandhana’s impact on the sport is undeniable. Her latest feat is yet another example of the growing influence of women’s cricket on the global stage.
