Tabu Reunites with Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan for Hilarious New Project ‘Bhooth Bangla’ After ‘Dune: Prophecy

Mumbai January12, 2025: Tabu, who has gained global recognition for her role in Dune: Prophecy, the sci-fi prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed film franchise, has now announced her next venture, returning to familiar territory in both genre and collaboration. On Saturday night, Tabu shared a photo on Instagram, featuring a clapboard with candles in the foreground. The clapboard read, “Balaji Telefilms Ltd Presents Bhooth Bangla.” Alongside the image, Tabu captioned the post, “Hum yahan bandh hain (we are trapped here),” and tagged the film’s director Priyadarshan, production house Balaji Motion Pictures, co-stars Akshay Kumar, Jisshu Sengupta, Wamiqa Gabbi, and music composer Pritam.

With Bhooth Bangla, Tabu is stepping back into the horror-comedy genre, an area she’s already excelled in. She portrayed the twin witches, Manjulika and Anjulika, in Anees Bazmee’s 2022 hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and was also part of Rohit Shetty’s 2017 horror-comedy Golmaal Again. Tabu’s director, Priyadarshan, and co-star, Akshay Kumar, were part of the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa in 2007. One Instagram user commented on her post, humorously imagining a reunion between her character Manjulika and Akshay’s Dr. Aditya Shrivastava from Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

Tabu’s collaboration with Priyadarshan isn’t new; they’ve previously worked together on four films, including the 1997 action drama Virasat, the 2000 cult comedy Hera Pheri, the Tamil mystery thriller Snegithiye, and the Malayalam crime drama Raakilipattu. In fact, Tabu and Akshay’s onscreen chemistry dates back to the 1996 film Tu Chor Main Sipahi.

In addition, Wamiqa Gabbi, who stars alongside Tabu in Bhooth Bangla, recently worked with her in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2023 Netflix spy thriller Khufiya. Meanwhile, Akshay and Priyadarshan are reuniting after collaborating on several successful films, including Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Khatta Meetha, and De Dana Dan.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Bhooth Bangla is set to hit theaters on April 2, 2026.
