PM Condemns Attack on Hindu Temple in Canada, Urges Canadian Government to Ensure Justice and Uphold Rule of Law

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly denounced a recent targeted attack on a Hindu temple in Canada, expressing concern over the rise in anti-Indian activities that threaten the peace and safety of Indian nationals and institutions abroad. In a social media post, Mr. Modi conveyed his deep concern for the safety of Hindu communities in Canada, emphasizing that attacks on places of worship reflect a troubling trend that must not be ignored. He urged the Canadian government to act decisively to protect minority communities and uphold justice by bringing the perpetrators to account swiftly.

Describing the attack as “deliberate” and “cowardly,” Prime Minister Modi noted that such incidents not only harm the sentiments of the Hindu community but also damage the longstanding relationship between the two nations. Referring to recent instances where Indian diplomats and establishments faced intimidation, he stated that “cowardly attempts to intimidate the country’s diplomats are equally appalling.” By acknowledging the importance of diplomatic security, Mr. Modi highlighted that threats or attacks against diplomats are direct challenges to international conventions and are particularly concerning when fueled by extremist groups.

The Prime Minister asserted that these acts of violence would not undermine India’s resilience or its commitment to promoting peace. He underscored that, despite attempts by certain groups to create division, the Indian government and people remain united. He further remarked that the values of tolerance, inclusivity, and mutual respect are central to India’s identity and will continue to guide its global relationships. Mr. Modi expressed his faith in Canada’s democratic system and law enforcement agencies to provide the protection needed by the Hindu diaspora and ensure such incidents do not recur.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi’s statement reflects India’s broader concerns over the protection of its citizens abroad amid rising reports of incidents targeting Indian-origin communities in various countries. His remarks also bring attention to the issue of hate crimes in Canada, particularly against places of worship. Observers note that Canada has seen a growing number of hate crimes against minority communities, creating challenges for social cohesion.

The Indian government has previously engaged with Canadian officials on similar issues, stressing the need for a strong stance against extremism and hate-driven violence. Mr. Modi’s appeal for justice serves as a reminder of the international expectation for governments to uphold the rule of law and protect religious freedom for all communities.

In concluding his message, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his hope for the Canadian government to take meaningful steps to prevent such attacks in the future and reinforce the safety and respect that are essential in a diverse, democratic society.
