Wayanad landslides: Massive search operation ongoing; dead toll exceeds 300

A massive search operation is currently underway in Wayanad, following a major landslide last Tuesday that caused significant damage to life and property. Army personnel, police, and rescue workers are diligently combing through the affected areas, searching for bodies amid the rubble and debris spread across large tracts of altered landscape. The search teams, assisted by sniffer dogs from both the army and the police, are working to locate and extricate bodies from amidst several layers of displaced soil, rocks, boulders, and uprooted trees.

The death toll in this tragedy has now tragically crossed the 300 mark, with the latest reports confirming that 308 individuals have lost their lives. In response to the disaster, over 7,000 people have been accommodated in 91 relief camps set up across the district, where they are receiving necessary support and assistance.
